Eric Coulson – CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
My introduction to CrossFit happened in winter 2005 or early 2006. Can’t remember exactly when except it was sometime in that winter because it was a cold 40 degree or so night. I had been reading on a blog I follow about this fitness routine called CrossFit and thought I’d give a workout a try when I stopped at the YMCA on my way home from work. I forget the exact WOD scheme but it involved rowing, dips, and squats. When I was finished and was walking out to my car, I had to stop the world from spinning and myself from possibly tossing my cookies by laying down on the cold concrete walkway. As those coming and going to the Y walked past me, (“Are you ok?” “That must have been a hell of a workout!) I remember thinking to myself, “What the heck did I just do to myself and why would anyone do this to themselves on a regular basis!?” Needless to say I was intrigued. Though I was not immediately hooked, the intrigue was enough to make me revisit CrossFit again in a few months.
I was tired of the same old back and bi’s, chest and tri’s, legs and abs bodybuilding-type workout split. I didn’t realize how boring that was until I started immersing myself in an education in CrossFit and its fundamentals. Through a steady diet of CrossFit inspired WODs, I began to see increases in strength, cardiovascular and muscular endurance, speed, agility, flexibility, and overall badassness. I was, and remain, hooked. I’m a self-confessed dork for this stuff. I fully credit CrossFit with helping me stay healthy enough, even as I push and eclipse 40 years old, to continue to play recreational ice hockey as a goaltender in a local men’s league.
Folks, CrossFit is good for you. In so many ways. I’ve seen its benefits in so many people and I have a dream to bring CrossFit to so many more. Chris and CrossFit Catonsville are generously allowing me the opportunity to make that happen. I want to share and teach the fundamentals of CrossFit and the CrossFit lifestyle and prescriptions to the masses, to help people change their lives for the better.
I attained my CrossFit Level I Trainer designation as of January 2015. I intend to be a part of CFC for a long while, helping Chris to grow the box to include many more members of the community who share a passion for a healthy CrossFit lifestyle. I’ll continue to further my CrossFit education by pursuing a Level II Trainer designation, as well as, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Gymnastics, and CrossFit Mobillity certifications.
I look forward to meeting and working with all new and current members of CFC. Let’s have some fun!
